When the seeds were planted in good soil, they grew. Let the Word of God grow in your life. 3. When the disciples were afraid during the storm, they asked Jesus to help them. Psalm 107:28-29 speaks of a similar scenario. People were distressed because of a storm at sea and cried out, “Lord, help!” The Lord calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves.
Now, we know God stands outside of time and is engaged with us in time at the same time, but I think this particular series, the order of the way things went down, is pretty interesting. We knew the typhoon was coming, but I for one hadn’t expected it to pack such a wallop. Yet in truth, Jesus was sleeping in the boat’s helm because he didn’t share the disciples’ fear.
We’re flooded by numerous types of storms daily. These storms are both internal and external.
Jesus INTERVENES for you during your storm. After speaking to the disciples, Jesus spoke to the storm. When He got into the boat, the storm ceased. The grammatical context indicates the ceasing was immediate. The wind did not die down over time. The rain did not slack up in stages. The clouds did not gradually dissipate. Jesus acted decisively.
They probably did everything that they knew how to do before waking up Jesus. By the time they went to Jesus, they were terrified (Matthew 8:25). To the disciples’ amazement, Jesus only had to speak a few words, and the storm became silent. The wind stopped and the water was still.
Jesus spoke first to the disciples, to His people. He had a Word for them first. He needed their attention. They were focused on the storm, but He wanted their attention before moving to the storm. What if we are truly living in the last days, and what if before God would act in this situation, He first wants to speak …
HE calmed the wind and sea. He sent demons into a herd of pigs and set a demonized man completely FREE (Luke 8:26-39). Jesus used a two-step process. He confronted the source of the problem directly (the wind) and then He spoke to what was causing the storm.
And they went and woke him , saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind
Why do you think the disciples wake Jesus up? Did they want Him to calm the storm or to take cover?
